Lucky lived a full life as a beloved pet. He was a special friend to a boy, now grown. That young man’s mother commissioned this portrait for her son.

I met Lucky numerous times; for the painting I needed to combine ideas from 3 photos to get the best look.

I was honored with the request to paint a beloved dog, several years gone now, as a holiday gift for the wife of a friend. I wasn’t sure I could catch this dog’s wonderful soulfulness, but the giftee got a tear in her eye, so I guess that was a hit.

It’s funny, I am terrible at human portrait. To quote my drawing teacher, my portraits “look vaguely human, and if you’re lucky, the correct gender and possibly related to the subject.” I think I see animals better.

Commissions like this take 4 weeks, and I need multiple images to work from.

Boody, aka Kaboodle, is the much loved cat of another young man. While he’s off at school, Boody lives with mom & dad. At least he has the portrait to remind him of his sweet kitty!
